IQB64W10W Focus Adjustment

<< Back to Zenith Tips

Tip from Lenny Zimmermann:  "Focusing this set is actually easier than I had expected it would be. Everything is easily accessible from the front of this set. There are two cloth covers on plastic frames that simply pull straight out, one short long one right beneath the screen and a large one that covers the speakers and the front panel.

The upper one covers two plates which provide two hole by which the lenses can be reached (and covered for when you wish to work on single colors for convergence or color settings) and the manual focus wing nuts. The rest of the screws in this area can be removed should you wish to remove the front screen (the entire frame simply pulls out from the bottom and is lifted up off the hooks at the top of that frame.)

To manually focus the lenses simply remove one or both of the two little wooden panels and cover the red and blue lenses with a couple of magazines (you could use the panels you just screwed off, but they tend to slide off.) If you are unsure of yourself you can always mark where the bolt with the wingnut on it is lined up on the metal casing so you can put your focus back where it was if needed. Then simply loosen up the wingnut a bit, grab the bolt it is threaded onto and move it right or left until you can see the scan lines clearly in the center of your screen. Once it's good, tighten the wingnut back up and do the same for red, then blue. You may wish to check out the Focus Adjustments section in the Toshiba section for some good tips on focusing and the Cantilever technique in the Mitsubishi section may prove useful as well.

Electronic focus is found behind the bigger bottom panel. If you remove it you will find a little black box sticking up in the lower left corner that has 6 trimpots on it. Be careful here as only one set is the electronic focus, be sure to read them very carefully. The other set is for saturation and could mess up your grey scale if you play with them. Some other sections of this site can guide you should you need to play around with these.

The focus trimpots are lined up in the same order as the guns so the blue focus is on the far left, green is in the middle and red is on the right, just like the guns are as you are looking at them in the set. Just cover those lenses as mentioned for the manual focus and turn the knobs (I usually rock them back and forth to make sure I have the adjustment right) to set the electronic focus. Once again the Focus Adjustments section mentioned above can help you on some focusing techniques. "
