Rebooting your DSS Receiver

Info below are not necessarily for HD receivers but could be useful to some who are looking for a way to revive their receivers.

Tip from an HT enthusiast:  DirecTV has been updating certain older receivers over the air to enable those receivers to work with H and HU signals when the cards are eventually swapped with HU cards.

For regular subscription cards, any of the reset procedures below should work.  For the reprogrammed cars, it is well known that using a different card on the receiver (i.e., swapping cards with friends/neighbors and doing a reboot should do the trick.

If you are one of many whose DSS receiver was rendered useless by a recent DSS over-the-air software upgrade, you may want to take a look at some options to reset it.

Look for your brand below to determine which procedure applies to you.

These are some of the IRD Receiver BOOTS procedures. I would recommend removing the CARD prior to doing any of these, but it is entirely up to you.

Sony Receivers

Determine the model number.  If you still have the box it came in, on the outside of the box will be a model number. If you don't have the box look on the metal plate on the back of the receiver.

If the model number goes something like: SAS-BS1 (note the 1 in the series), then you have a first Generation unit. If the model number goes something like: SAS-BS2 (note the 2), then you have a Second Generation unit.
