G2 and Grayscale Adjustment

Tip from GB:
1. Place the input to the RGB (Aux5) mode. Connect a Computer or Computer monitor
generator to the Aux 5 input.
2. Preset the G2 controls counterclockwise.
3. Turn the Green G2 clockwise to make the menu visible.
4. Enter the Whole System Service mode by entering 0-6-2-5-9-6-Menu.
5. Preset the following registers:

Exit the Service mode by entering a value of 00 in register 000.
6. Set the Brightness, Picture, and Sharpness to their midpoint position. Select a
Black Raster pattern on the computer or computer monitor generator.
7. Place a Scope set to measure dc on the Cathode of the Green CRT. Enter the Whole
System Service mode.
8. Adjust the CRT bias register 008 to set the Black Level equal to 180 volts on the
scope.
9. Remove the Scope.
10. Exit the Service mode and save changes by entering a value of 00 in register 000.
11. Turn the set On and select the RGB (Aux 5) input. Select the Black Raster pattern
on the Computer or computer monitor generator.
12. Look into each CRT and set the G2 control for each color to just illuminate the
CRT.
13. Select the Gray Scale pattern on the Computer or Computer monitor generator.
14. Enter the Whole System Service mode.
15. Adjust the Red and Blue Cutoffs (registers 002 and 004) to obtain the correct white
balance in the dark areas of the picture. Adjust the Red and Blue drives (registers 005
and 007) to obtain the correct white balance in the light areas of the picture. Leave the
Green Cutoff and Green Drive at 3F.
16. Save the changes by entering a value of 00 in register 000.
17. Select the Y Pr Pb (Aux 4) input to the set. Apply an HD Y Pr Pb signal to the Aux
4 input of the set.
18. Reenter the Whole System Service mode and adjust the Drive controls to obtain the
correct White Balance. Do not adjust the Cutoff controls. The Cutoff controls are common
to both modes.
19. Save the Changes by entering a value of 00 in register 000.
20. Place the set in the NTSC mode and apply an NTSC Gray Scale pattern to the set.
21. Enter the NTSC Service mode by entering 0-6-2-5-9-5-Menu.
22. Preset the following controls:

23. Exit the service mode and save the changes by entering a value of 00 in register
00.
24. Enter the Whole System Control mode by entering 0-6-2-5-9-6-Menu.
25. Preset the following registers:

26. Adjust the Red and Blue Offsets (registers 38 and 44) to obtain the
correct White Balance in the Dark areas of the picture. Adjust the Red and Blue Fine gain
adjustments to obtain the correct White Balance in the Light areas of the picture.
27. Exit the Service mode and save changes by entering a value of 00 in register 000.
